Auckland University Press publishes major books on all forms of New Zealand art, architecture and design. From paintings, photography, sculpture and art history, to books on architecture's most visionary practitioners and the spaces they've shaped.

In Art, we have published monographs of some of New Zealand's great artists such as Shane Cotton: Moerewa —Liquid Sleep, Tony Fomison: Life of the Artist, Frances Hodgkins: European Journeys and Gottfried Lindauer’s New Zealand: The Māori Portraits. The Press also publishes books that focus on significant art movements such as Kirsty Baker's Sight Lines: Women and Art in Aotearoa, Peter Simpson’s Bloomsbury South and Strangers Arrive by Len Bell, or works of art criticism such as This Model World by Anthony Byrt. The Press publishes many books focused on Māori art and artists from ancient to contemporary such as the landmark Toi Te Mana: An Indigenous History of Māori Art.

In Architecture, we have published several important books by architectural historian Julia Gately, including Athfield Architects, looking at the work of renowned architect Ian Athfield, Long Live the Modern and Vertical Living. We also publish books focused on particular projects and history such as Shigeru Ban: Cardboard Cathedral by Andrew Barrie and Whare Karakia, looking at the history of Māori church building.
