Te Kaituhi / Author

Paula Morris (Ngāti Wai, Ngāti Whātua, Ngāti Manuhiri) is an award-winning novelist, short story writer and essayist. For ten years, Paula worked in London and New York, first as a publicist and marketing executive in the record business, and later as a branding consultant and advertising copywriter. Paula holds degrees from universities in New Zealand, the UK and the US, including a D.Phil from the University of York and an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. She directs the Master of Creative Writing programme at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland.

Paula is the founder of the Academy of New Zealand Literature and Wharerangi, the online Māori literature hub, and sits on the New Zealand Book Awards Trust, the Crystal Arts Trust and the Mātātuhi Foundation. She has been awarded numerous international residencies, including the Katherine Mansfield Menton Fellowship, and was made an MNZM in 2019 for services to literature.

Te Kaiwhakamāori / Translator

Hinewai Pōmare is of Te Rarawa, Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Pūkenga, Ngāi Te Rangi and Tarara descent. She holds health, science and management degrees from Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland, Auckland University of Technology, Te Wānanga Aronui o Tāmaki Makaurau, University of Waikato, Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato and Victoria University of Wellington—Te Herenga Waka and is a graduate of Te Panekiretanga o Te Reo. As the Northern Region Manager for Te Hiringa Hauora / Health Promotion Agency, her interests include health equity, leadership and health systems. Hinewai is a qualified translator and interpreter.
