He uri a Te Korou Whangataua nō Kahungunu, nō Rangitāne, nō Ngāpuhi, nō Ngāti Porou, me Ngāi Tahu. He mea whakapakeke ia ki te reo Māori e ōna mātua i Te Wairarapa, ā, ka 11 tau, ka hūnuku ia ki Tāmaki Makaurau. He raukura ia nō te Kōhanga Reo, nō te Kura Kaupapa Māori me te Wharekura.

Ka whāia e ia a Te Pīnakitanga ki te Reo Kairangi me Te Panekiretanga o te Reo i tana wehenga i te kura. I puta hoki tōna ihu i te tohu whakaako pakeke, i te tohu o Ngā Mana Whakairo a Toi, me te Te Aho Paerewa.

Te Korou Whangataua is of Kahungunu, Rangitāne, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Porou and Ngāi Tahu descent. He was born and raised in the Māori language by his parents in the Wairarapa before moving to Auckland at 11 years old. He is a graduate of Kōhanga Reo, Kura Kaupapa Māori and Wharekura.

Upon leaving high school, Te Korou pursued learning te reo Māori at tertiary level through Te Pīnakitanga ki te Reo Kairangi and Te Panekiretanga o te Reo and went on to complete a Diploma in Adult Education, a Bachelor of Māori Performing Arts and a Post-Graduate Diploma Teaching and Learning in Māori Medium.

A Māori language enthusiast, experienced subtitler, kapa haka exponent and dynamic language teacher at various kura reo throughout Aotearoa, Te Korou also translated the Kings song ‘Kei Aro Atu Koe / Don’t Worry Bout’ It’, which featured in the 2019 Waiata Anthems. Te Korou now teaches at TKKM o Hoani Waititi Marae and Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and has a passion for translating and creating new phrases and sayings – keeping te reo fresh, cool and youthful.
