J.K. ROWLING is the author of the enduringly popular Harry Potter books. After the idea for Harry Potter came to her on a delayed train journey in 1990, she plotted out and started writing the series of seven books and the first, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was published in the UK in 1997. The series took another ten years to complete, concluding in 2007 with the publication of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

To accompany the series, J.K. Rowling wrote three short companion volumes for charity, Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, in aid of Comic Relief and Lumos, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard, in aid of Lumos. Leon Heketū Blake (Tūhoe, Tūhourangi, Ngāti Wāhiao, Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Whāwhākia, Taranaki, Ngāti Kahungunu) is a long-standing teacher of te reo Māori to young people, adults and teachers across the country. Leon is a graduate of Te Panekiretanga o Te Reo (The Institute of Excellence in the Māori Language) and went on to become one of its tutors. He has co-written a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Māori Language Excellence for Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. Leon was on the Quality Assurance Group for Te Ture mō te Reo, 2016. He received his qualifications from Massey University in Palmerston North.

Leon is a certified translator and interpreter, registered with The Māori Language Commission in New Zealand. For the past decade, he has provided Māori language consultancy services through his company Kounga Ltd. Kounga means quality – and all of Leon’s endeavours work towards achieving this for the Māori language. He provides translation services to government agencies, and he has worked as a Māori language advisor on several television productions, including SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer. In 2017, he translated Professor Rangi Matamua’s book entitled Matariki: The Star of the Year. Leon enjoys playing the piano and spending time with his granddaughters.

Pānia Papa is the Chief Executive of Kotahi Rau Pukapuka and oversees a pool of certified Māori language translators and editors involved in this audacious goal. Pānia’s career over the past three decades has included roles as a television presenter, language consultant, language teacher, curriculum and resource developer, adult performing group leader, translator and language strategy and education programme reviewer. She was also a member of the independent panel that reviewed the government’s Māori language strategy and the Māori language sector, as well as the ensuing independent statutory board established in response to that review. Pānia was a teacher within the Institute of Excellence of the Māori Language and is one of three teachers in the newly established Master of Māori Language Excellence.

Tiare Tawera is a successful businessman, motivational health and wellbeing ambassador, Māori Television actor and entrepreneur. The youngest of five siblings, Tiare spent his early life in the small town of Whakatāne, brought up rich with Māori culture and language fluency. After moving to Auckland, he started his career at age 18 as the presenter for the award-winning Māori children’s television show Pūkana. Many more opportunities in voice acting and presenting at Māori Television followed, including various roles in shows Nanakia, Pukuhohe and many more.

In 2009, Tiare started on a health and fitness journey motivated by the birth of his daughter. Tiare launched his first nutrition and training business Tawera Fitness, followed by his collective The Awakening, a group dedicated to promoting health, fitness and mental wellbeing within fathers worldwide.
