Alistair Woodward is Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Auckland and was head of the School of Population Health from 2004 to 2013. His first degree was in medicine, and he undertook his postgraduate training in public health in the United Kingdom. Woodward has a PhD in epidemiology from the University of Adelaide. Prior to taking up a post at the University of Auckland, he was professor of Public Health at the University of Otago, Wellington. His research interests include tobacco, radio-frequency radiation and health, transport and injury, and climate change. He has worked for the World Health Organization throughout the Pacific, and led the writing of the health chapter in the fifth assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Since 2009 Woodward has been an editor of the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health.
