Auckland University Press publishes major books on all forms of New Zealand art from paintings, photography, sculpture and art history. Our books feature definitive monographs of some of New Zealand's great artists such as Frances Hodgkins: European Journeys, Gottfried Lindauer’s New Zealand: The Māori Portraits and Wright and Hanfling’s Mrkusich. The Press also publishes books that focus on significant art movements such as Peter Simpson’s Bloomsbury South and Strangers Arrive by Len Bell, or on works of art criticism such as This Model World by Anthony Byrt. The Press publishes many books focused on Māori art and artists from ancient to contemporary such as A Whakapapa of Tradition by Ngarino Ellis and The Desire of the Line: Ralph Hotere Figurative Works by Kriselle Baker.
